You Make Our Libraries Better

Subject: You make our libraries better

Colleagues,

As I have read some of the rationale behind the recent desire from some of our staff to unionize, I am struck by the fact that Penn Libraries is already addressing most of the topics used as justification for seeking unionization. This graphic illustrates six key areas where we took your feedback and turned it into immediate action.

As your new director, I am committed to compassionate collaboration; I know that listening to our people is essential for Penn Libraries to maintain an effective, respectful workplace. Your voice is powerful—and you don’t need a union for us to hear it.

It is important, as you consider your vote in the upcoming NLRB election, to evaluate how further unionization within our staff might affect both the Penn Libraries and you as an individual. I will continue to advocate for your personal and professional success, support your right to choose, and respect your perspective on unionization.

I will also continue to share information with you in the days leading up to the August 7 and 8 election, through email and on the website created for you: Facts4PennLibraries.org. My door remains open to any questions or concerns our staff may have.
